Composer's Notes Yuugen Mugen — Subtle and Profound, and Infinite— by Reidou Konno Oct. 10th 2014 We are living in a busy restless society. As the Zen monks used to do, when I meditate and play my Shakuhachi, the sound takes me to the infinite universe. We are such a small entity on the earth, in the solar system, in the universe. Even we as individuals are physically very small, but each of us have ‘love’ that is as deep as the universe. One can love others unconditionally, also 'love' could save the world. I composed this piece to describe Subtle and Profound beauty of the four seasons of Japan for Japanese Bamboo Flute, Shakuhachi. I hope that my music travels to the universe, wraps around the earth, and reaches to you.
Procession (2008) for Tuba (Bassoon) and Piano by Tony Wardzinski Procession is a piece about the short journey of a solitary figure. In the beginning this figure walks slowly, weighed down by feelings of sadness and remorse. As the procession continues, the figure is suddenly struck by a feeling of hope and inspiration. This feeling begins a flood of ideas, hopes, and dreams that the solitary figure had long forgotten. As quickly as this epiphany occurs, it passes and the figure continues the procession, with a deeper understanding of their sadness, and a feeling of reconciliation and peace.
