From Japan Sunday February 19th, @14:00 Japan time England Sunday@5:00; Germany, Belgium@6:00; Mexico Saturday 23:00 CT, West Coast, US, PST Saturday@21:00 琴古流尺八虚空庵大師範 金野鈴道、尺八 Shakuhachi Kinko-School Kokuuan the Grand Master, Reidou Konno, shakuhachi 虚空 琴古流尺八本曲 作曲 虚竹禅師 Kokuu kinko-ryuu shakuhachi honkyoku, Kochiku-zennji Program note “虚空-Kokuu” means "open space, vacuity” for “Akasha” in Sanskrit and a term in traditional Indian cosmology. It is not only a simple open space but also the place that transports sounds. ”虚空-Kokuu” in Shakuhachi music,it is understood as a Spiritual state of “nothingness”, limitless clear sky, a mysteriously beautiful sound that you’ve never heard of. According to the legend, the Zen monk “Kochiku”, who opened Myouann-ji in Kyoto, heard a mysteriously beautiful sound during his Shakuhachi training journey. He composed this shakuhachi music to describe the sound. The music has a simplicity and balanced musical beauty that sounds as if praying with “spiritual nothingness” facing an endless sky. This “虚空-Kokuu" with “虚霊-Kyorei” and “霧海篪-Mukaij” are the three the most respected and the oldest traditional Shakuhachi musical compositions called “Koden sankyoku”. |
